Since the war there have been very few Chinese rugs coming into America. The reason for this was because most of the looms and machinery were destroyed. There were limited amounts of Chinese rugs that made it to New York after the war. These were mostly the 9 x 12 foot size. These were mostly plain with no designs and colors were mainly cream, apricot, green and a few in plain blue. An estimated amount of 500 total came over here to the United States after the war. There can not be more than 50 on the market today. That’s just a little tip about history on rugs. See a variety of area carpet rugs.
When the rugs get old they can increase in value or they can become rags and need to be thrown out or given to the homeless if there is still some life left in your rug. Take a look around and see what makes sense and what you can do to spring clean and perhaps help out a friend in need.

Another great group making a difference in helping the homeless transition to homes and new furnishing comes from Deserving Decor Organization. It’s a non-profit that gets help from volunteers who donate their time and also gently used home decorations and furnishings to inspire a great look in the newly aquired home. Stop over to see all that they are doing this year at Deserving Decor.

Comfort is key, so we want to look at getting the best home furnishings we can to make our dwelling or home a good place to be.
When just starting out a few essentials are really all one needs. Bedding for the bedroom, towels for the bathroom, kitchen table and chair and a few pots and pans and utensils for cooking and perhaps a rug if you can find one. Pictures come later or freehand drawings or artwork can work well, especially if you have kids.
TV and comfy chairs for the living room are great, but when things are tight then a rug on the floor will do nicely and a pillow and a good book. A lamp is a must for reading after sundown.
We have found the Habitat for Humanity has some wonderful selections of everything for your home that are very inexpensive and are more than affordable once you get your feet on the ground. The quality can be very nice too as these products come from donations from your local town or city people. They are redecorating or found something new they want and no longer need the old dishwasher or whatever. This does not mean these things are not really nice and high quality… they are just not needed anymore by those that donate.
It’s a great look to the future when just beginning to furnish your home. Habitat for Humanity Rocks!

Throws and Blankets: Can easily be worked in with the area rugs and tapestries, or just as a separate entity. Again you can use these as accessories to pull your room together with the colors.
Throw Pillows: If all else fails use throw pillows. The right size, texture and color can really complete a room or add the warmth to it that it may be missing.
And don’t forget… all of these can be possible through donations and dirt cheap or free.

The soup kitchen is rock’en every noon hour when the food is being put on plates and served to the guest of the day, while the piano plays on… yeah, the soup kitchen really does rock for those in need
We are alway treated nice by our friends at Decor4u where you can find very beautiful works-of-art http://www.decor4u.com/european-tapestries-c-8.html from our trusted source. We thank you for all you do.
We have been getting a lot of chairs lately… lots. All folding chairs and it’s worked out well as we’ve replaced our older ones with the better and newer ones and simply given the old away to those in need. It was from on old hall that had to close it’s doors to make way for a new string of shops. So we lucked out and got the chairs… we’re not sure who got the tables. Lots of tables.
We also have been getting a few lamps and then more artwork to hang on the wall in various forms. Some were paint by number, acrylic and the velvet painted on pictures. And they are loved and go like hot cakes for cheap. And we continue to get this nice wall hangings. Somebody out there likes us and is always giving us a helping hand.

Now that we’ve made the leap back into a home lets take a look at how to set up camp, so to speak.
How do we want the room to function and how do we want the room to look. Two very different things when it comes to making it all happen.
First arrange the room for functionality and then begin looking at paint and color and wall art, furnishings. You will find it will come together much better with this sequence of steps. Get some more tips with this great article on home decor basics and then work your way up to home decor accessories.

We have some nice donations and now our group of previously homeless people, that are now with homes can use some help in home decor. Today we are looking into wall decoration in a tapestry wall hanging for their new digs.
Oddly enough, we have been given a great abundance of tapestries through a generous donation from a shop that is moving on and closing their doors and they have a ton of wall hangings that they so generously gave to the homeless shelter. We are so pleased to distribute these fine woven goods to our new group of homeless with homes.
The smiles on the faces are more than enough thanks to keep us working hard by putting our donations together with them in their new home, thus making a wonderful change in the style and look of their home decor.
