Homelessness in Tallahassee
For hundreds of people in Tallahassee, the home that most of us take for granted is a distant dream. For these Tallahassee residents, “home” may consist of a shelter cot, a box on the street or an abandoned car. The growing number of area homeless, which are found in rural and urban areas, include men, women, children, the ill, the elderly, persons with disabilities, veterans and the unemployed.
HOPE Community
The residents of Tallahassee and the Big Bend area have a rich history of reaching out to those in our community with special needs. As a part of that history, The Big Bend Homeless Coalition has been a partner with other service agencies in the effort to meet the needs of the homeless. Those needs are complex and ask us to explore creative solutions to the whole problem of homelessness. The HOPE COMMUNITY is a vision and dream of both the City of Tallahassee and the Coalition as we look beyond emergency shelter toward a long-term strategy for eliminating homelessness in our area.
